False Scent info
Aging actress Mary Bellamy reveled in the adoration of her family, friends, and fans at her birthday party. That is, right up until one of them murdered her with a puff of deadly "perfume" that turned out to be the insecticide Mary used in her flower garden. To the detained guests at the party, the dear, departed Mary became ever so much more beloved in death than she was in life; her mood could swing from charming to vicious on a moment's notice. When Superintendent Roderick Alleyn arrives, he finds an entire collection of despicably fawning family and guests to sort through, all of whom are suspects. Alleyn masterfully works the case through to its shocking conclusion.
